Which is not say, "go happily to McD's every day. but, if you were genuinely happy (and not mistaking addictive food pleasure for happiness), you might be better off than going to Whole Foods in a state of worry or frustration.

The Science: The Vagus Nerve & The Nutrient Tax

This isn't a lack of willpower; it’s a biological lockdown. Your Enteric Nervous System (ENS)—the "second brain" in your gut—is hardwired to your Vagus Nerve.

  1. The Blood Divert: When your brain perceives a threat (a "perceptual snake" like a deadline or a past trauma), it triggers the Survival Mode alarm. The body immediately diverts blood flow away from the digestive organs and toward the large muscles for fight or flight.

The Proof: Digestion Under Siege

I know the frustration of "eating perfectly" and feeling worse. For over two decades, I lived with my liver and gallbladder migrated into my chest cavity due to a six-inch hole in my diaphragm. Mechanically, my digestive system was under siege.

I learned the hard way that you cannot "diet" your way out of the type of nervous system havoc that is now ubiquitous in our cultural trance. By using the Michael Boyle Coherence System™, I learned to manually signal safety to my gut even when my anatomy was failing. I moved my State of Being from a reactive "Survival" loop to a creative "Thriving" state. The result? My body finally began to metabolize the life I was feeding it.

The bottom line is this: unless we develop the capacity to change our State of Being aside from whatever else is going on in our lives, our joy and love will always be held hostage to circumstance.

At the center of our Mandala of Health is The Hub: State of Being. It is the gravitational center that determines if your cells are in "Defense" or "Repair." To get the ROI on your nutrition, you must first teach your nervous system that it's not at war. Getting your kids to school on time, navigating traffic, doing the dishes, and the "dead"line at work. We react to these life-affirming events as if they are life-or-death threats. It's not our fault that this happens. We are evolutionarily designed this way. But there is an optional upgrade available to us all. 

Your Values: Healing is a byproduct of thriving. We don't need to heal to thrive; we need to thrive to heal.
